Everyone can claim their labor rights!

Everyone can claim their labor rights!

Everyone can claim their labor rights.

Thousands of migrants work in Greece, legally or undeclaired (black labor). The more vulnerable a worker’s social position is, the greater their exploitation usually becomes. Migrants often experience the most extreme forms of this exploitation. Life in a foreign country, without familiar faces and family, without speaking Greek, means a more vulnerable position compared to the locals anyway. The Greek state actively seeks to make the position of migrants even more vulnerable. Through push-backs and murders at the borders, enclosure in camps, years of waiting to obtain documents, denial of asylum, constant police and fascist violence, it aims to further diminish migrants. Local employers often exploit this situation, frequently acting against the working migrants.

However, every migrant has – and must have – labor rights. And they can claim them, despite many obstacles:

  • Because even if you work illegally or without documents, you have labor rights.
  • Because you can be informed about the terms and conditions of your employment contract and if your boss respects them.
  • Because you can claim earned wages, overtime pay, compensation for accidents, etc.

Improving the working conditions of migrants involves connecting their struggles with those of local workers. As the Stop War On Migrants assembly, we seek this connection. We support the struggles of migrants for housing, healthcare, documents, and decent working conditions. We want to overcome language barriers, fear, and social isolation. In this direction, we aim to create an initiative-structure that will provide legal information on labor issues and support the demands of working migrants.
